Description

The SportsPlay Bongos station brings the immediacy of percussion to the playground in a format that needs no instruction — two drum surfaces mounted at child height on a freestanding HDPE post, ready for any child to walk up and play. The two heads are sized for small hands and tuned to produce a high tone and a low tone, which naturally invites call-and-response play between two kids or rhythmic exploration by one. Because there are no mallets, no electronics, and no moving parts beyond the drum surfaces themselves, the station holds up to constant outdoor use without the maintenance burden of more complex play elements. The HDPE post is UV-stabilized and rot-proof; powder-coated metal accents resist chipping and fading. It installs on a single freestanding post set in concrete and works equally well as a standalone piece or as part of a larger outdoor music zone. Available in standard SportsPlay colors. Ages 2 and up.

FAQ

Do kids need mallets to play the Bongos station?

No. The drum surfaces are played by hand, so there are no mallets to lose or replace. The open-hand design also makes it more accessible for children with limited grip strength.

Can the Bongos station be used in a sensory program?

Yes. Tactile percussion — feeling the vibration while striking the drum — provides sensory input that benefits children with sensory processing needs. The two different tones also support auditory discrimination activities.

Does the Bongos station need to connect to a playground structure?

No. It is freestanding on a single post set in concrete and can be placed anywhere on the site independently of other equipment.
