Occupational Therapist Shannon Wylie demonstrates how to use the Saddle Roll and peanut shaped Sensi-Roll

Peanut shaped exercise therapy balls Sensi-Rolls and Saddle Rolls are available in our shop at eSpecialNeeds. Occupational therapist Shannon Wylie gives an overview and demonstrates how to use them in this video.

Edited video transcript:

"In this video I'm going to make a few suggestions and show some activities of how you could use a variety of products. Be sure to consult with an occupational, physical, or speech therapist on the manner that you're using these if you're unsure, to make sure that they're safe for both you your caregivers and that you are using them appropriately. Also, be sure that there's not a point of overuse of the product.

This orange ball is a peanut ball so it kind of has an oblong shape for back to front with a cinched middle so it kind of looks like a peanut. This also has a texture on it which for kids that are visually impaired or are kind of sensory seeking can be fun to challenge and simulate them a little bit while they're on the ball. Sitting on it long ways requires less stability and less effort by the child so they could have a wide base of support. They can shift their weight from one leg to the other. Again, we can do some trunk rotation or just shifting from one side to do an activity or a toy and putting it back on the other side.

Sometimes kids like to rock back and forth simulating a horse so this kind of engages the hips and the pelvis a little bit for some trunk extension. You can also reach up and down for for activities that you might be doing at home. This orange peanut ball is a good option for kids who may have more difficulty with a standard circular exercise ball.
