The Obi Robotic Self-Feeder is a revolutionary device for people with upper body mobility impairments to dine more independently.
Take it to a restaurant or a family meal: the Obi is (rechargeable) battery operated, weighs only 7.7 pounds and operates comfortably at table height. You can easily teach the Obi where your mouth is located, program it to switch between four compartments of food, and control it with any part of the body that can activate a switch. It effectively captures food, wipes the spoon, and intelligently repositions food. The simple and intuitive operation of the Obi Robotic Self-Feeder allows the user to be in complete control!

Meet Obi! Obi is a self-feeder robot designed for home care. It serves anyone from individuals with limited dexterity, Parkinson's, cerebral palsy, amputation, muscular dystrophy, and MS, to name a few. Obi works by moving its robotic arm with a securely-attached spoon to scoop food out of four preset bowls to feed the user. The user is specifically able to customize their dining experience by teaching the preset height and distance of their mouth from the table to Obi. Obi can be switch-operated with the users hands of feet or used automatically. Its spoon and tray are both removable, dishwasher-safe and easy to clean. Obi's also got a rechargeable battery which makes it great for restaurant use. You can meet your new dining companion at especialneeds.com
In this video above, Occupational Therapist Emily Martine provides a quick overview and demonstration of the Obi Self Feeder.

This is the Obi Self-Feeder. It's a really cool product because you can teach it. You can hit the teach button and then that way you can set to the height and to where your mouth is located which is very cool so you just would move the arm and move the spoon wherever you would need it to go to be able to teach it is lightweight most self feeders are pretty heavy this one is a very light self feeder it's also switch adapted you're able to use switches one that can scoop and notice that when it scoops it actually will take it back and get any of the excess food off the bottom of the spoon which is kind of cool because it's less messy the switch can also change the location so you can hit up the different plates and again it's switch adapted and will go in there and actually scoop through in order to be able to have the client be able to choose what they want to eat which is so nice because most of the time it's just caregivers just provided in that spoon this allows somebody who has maybe ALS or who's had a spinal cord injury or who has limited range of motion or who's had a brain damage and who you know doesn't have the ability to be able to self feed for various reasons... it gives them the opportunity to be modified independent which is really nice and it allows them to take it to a restaurant allows them to use it at a table height so they can actually sit with family members but the best thing about it is it allows choice which is very important for just being able to feel more independent.
